Homework Information:

Term 4 - One last term for year 8's!

Short story - We discussed this at the end of last term - you might like to be thinking about it before we get back into school BUT we will be working on these short stories IN CLASS TIME. You can not have any assistance, directly linked to the competition story, but we will be focusing on the skills/learning within the success criteria.

8 of you have been selected to sit the final Otago Problem Solving Challenge - this is a very hard exam, so congratulations to those people. I have some practice sheets available if you would like them.


Term 3! - Wow, we are over half way through the year.

On Friday you have a science write up due. Things to remember:

KMnO4 Test 1: 5.7g Test 2: 5.125gm Test 3: 6.25gms Test 4: 6.8gm Test 5 7gm
KIO3 Test 1: 5.75g Test 2: 7.7gm Test 3: 18gms Test 4: 24gm Test 25gm

  • Your study question/aim is based around where or not water will dissolve differing amounts of different types of crystals?
  • Your research will be around molecules and the structure of different crystals

On Wednesday, I will show you another model level 4 and level 5 conclusion, but you will have time, in class, on Thursday and Friday to help get this completed.

Term Two

Week 9 - Short story planning due Monday
-Beginning of Science Fair - parent meeting Monday evening.


Week 5-6
Week 5 is production week and as a number of you are involved in this, we will not have extra homework during the week. Things you do need to remember:
-ICAS Science is on Wednesday - you might like to check out the link to the right and practise.
-Science Write up is due week 6
-You will have class time to be working on your Maori conversations, but might like to have a shared Google Doc with your partner to work on this.
-Speeches need to be ready for Week 7 - Please save in your writing folder.

Parent Invite to our Maths Sharing -
We are starting this term with a focus on how Maths is applied in real life. Over the next two weeks, You have a Maths project for homework - it is due in Friday of week 2 - see the Maths wiki page for details.
Term One:

-Science Conclusion - we have been working on our first science conclusion for the year - this will help provide a model for next weeks task around our light unit. We have finished the class time on this, and so you now need to complete it at home.
Week 8 - Light title page
Week7-
By Friday this week - could you please have your Autumn short story typed up and in your writing folder. We have been working on these pieces of writing in class, in our literacy books, should they should now be ready for publishing.

Week 6 -
  • Add a magpie sentence
  • Chat with your parents about the shared lunch
  • Re-craft your short story - can you use any of our magpie sentences to help improve your writing
  • Site
Week 5/6 - Autumn short story. Your draft writing needs to be completed by WEDNESDAY 12th March - We will be working on re-crafting in class, so you need to have your draft in your literacy book and at school every day.
SITE - we are now getting some information - both feedback and test scores, that you will be wanting to share with your parents. Your site is the format for doing this. Please make sure you site is set up with the following - ask for help if you get stuck)
  • Maths page - asTTLe Geometry and Measurement link with a reflection on your next learning steps
  • Writing - including your writing goal and what things you like about writing/what challenges you have. Also add a link to your first essay.
  • PE - you will need to have 2 goals for PE around our school expectations for this term - Swimming (able to swim 200m without stopping) and running/fitness (number of laps around the track in 12 min - school expectation is 7, but set your own goal)
  • Theme - we have been looking at Cyber Safety - I have emailed you an embedding code for you to use to create a link to the Padlet page.
  • Home - the purpose of this page is to tell people who have been given access what to expect in the site, perhaps include photos of learning or general reflection - remember to stay cyber safe when you think about what you add to this page.

Week 3 - Friday - 1st Essay Due: The Treaty of Waitangi. We are wanting to be experts in this area of New Zealand history, so that we can create our entry for a $10 000 film competition. During the last 2 weeks in class, we have been learning how to research and write a formative essay.
This essay is due FRIDAY 28th FEB - Sorry about the change - My mistake which students quickly pointed out to me :)
